Question : CHANGE IN SYLLABUS FOR DENTAL SURGEONS



(a) whether the Government is contemplating to change the syllabus for dental surgeons; and

(a) & (b) The BDS Course Regulations for undergraduate dental students were framed in 1983, i.e. about 23 years ago. Since then, significant developments have taken place in the field of Dentistry worldwide. Therefore, Central Government, on the basis of the recommendations of Dental Council of India, and in consultation with the State Governments and the Medical Universities, is contemplating to bring about certain changes in the syllabus for BDS Course, by incorporating therein new subjects like “Aesthetic Dentisty, Oral Implantology and Dentofacial Orthopadedics, etc., so as to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the students undergoing BDS Course in various dental colleges across the country to bring them on par with the international standards.
