Question : NHs in Kerala

(a) the number of National Highways in the country, especially in Kerala that have been expanded into four lanes and six lanes, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether there are objections for the development of the National Highways into four lanes and six lanes and the steps taken to settle these objections;

(c) the total allotment and utilization of money to the National Highways in Kerala during the last five years;

(d) the length of NHs during the last ten years in the country and the length of NHs built in Kerala during the same period;

(e) the number of such highway projects in the State that have been funded fully by the Centre and through PPP mode during the above period; and

(f) the details of major NH stretches currently under construction in the State including PPP and toll projects?

(a) Development of various National Highways including their expansion to four/six lane is carried out subject to traffic, availability of funds and inter-se priority of works. During the current financial year 2018-19, 1719Km of various National Highways in the country including Kerala have been expanded to Four/six/eight lane out of which 4 Km length falls in Kerala.

(b) Objections received from the land owners for development of National Highways into four/six/eight lanes are examined by the respective Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) and are disposed of based on the merit as per National Highways Act 1956.

(c) During the last five years, a sum of Rs 3500 Crore for development and maintenance of various National Highways were allotted out of which Rs 3293 Crore has been utilized.

(d) During the last ten years, 57839 Km of National Highways in the country including Kerala were built/constructed/ developed out of which 230 Km length falls in Kerala.

(e) All National Highways projects in Kerala have been fully funded by the Central government except three projects of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) which have been funded through PPP mode and two projects which are funded to the extent of 50% by the Government of Kerala.

(f) At present, nine major National Highway projects each costing more than Rs 300 Crore are under construction including PPP/Toll projects.
