Question : New Railway Museum

(a) whether the Government is planning to build new railway museums in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, Statewise;

(c) whether any proposal is pending with the Government for the development or initiating any kind of activities at the Ernakulam Terminus Railway Station which is in an abandoned State now; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) The current policy of the Government is to develop Digital Museums at important Railway stations of the country subject to justification/feasibility. The work has been entrusted to M/s Railtel Corporation of India Ltd. (RCIL), a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. Further, museums, as per the requirement, may also be developed at various places including Railway stations.

(c) & (d) A proposal has been received from the Kerala Rail Development Corporation Ltd. (KRDCL), a joint venture between Railway and Government of Kerala for developing the erstwhile Ernakulam Goods Station under Public Private Partnership mode.
