Question : National Textiles Corporation

(a) the number of textile mills operational under National Textile Corporation Limited (NTC) across the country, State-wise along with the number of employees employed in these mills;

(b) whether the Government had closed/shut down such textile mills under NTC during COVID-19 lockdown, if so, the details thereof including the number of closed mills that have been revived/made operational;

(c) the number of mills that have remained closed, State-wise especially in Kerala; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to reopen these mills?

(a): There are 23 operating mills under National Textile Corporation (NTC) Limited. State-wise details along with number of employees in such mills are as under:-

(b): Manufacturing activities in the 23 working mills of NTC were put under suspension pursuant to the imposition of nation-wide lockdown as a measure to avoid spread of COVID-19 pandemic. State-wise details of mills made operational so far are :-

(c) & (d): Manufacturing operations in 15 mills including 3 out of 4 mills in Kerala continue to be under suspension on account of poor market demand and financial constraints of the Corporation. NTC mills selected for re-opening are those which are expected to generate substantial positive cash flow because of their inherent capabilities.
