Question : IRREGULARITIES IN LPG DISTRIBUTION



(a) the number of LPG distributors in the country at present, State-wise;

(b) whether action has been initiated against LPG distributors for indulging in irregularities/fraud in the distribution of gas since October, 2009 ;

(c) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(d) the nature of action taken against the erring distributors;

(e) whether any distributorship has been cancelled in this regard; and

(f) if so, the details thereof ?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.291 BY SHRI BHOOPENDRA SINGH AND SHRI YASHVIR SINGH TO BE ANSWERED ON 15-04-2010 REGARDING IRREGULARITIES IN LPG DISTRIBUTION.

(a): As on 01-03-2010, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are operating 9607 LPG distributors in the country. The State-wise details are at Annexure-I.

(b) to (f): OMCs have reported that based on the established complaints for various irregularities, action has been taken in 655 cases including termination of 5 distributors in the country between October 2009 and February 2010 under the provisions of Marketing Discipline Guidelines (MDG)/Distributorship Agreement. An amount of Rs. 754.80 lacs has been imposed as penalty on the erring LPG distributors under the provisions of MDG during the same period. The State-wise details are at Annexure-II.
