(a) The total number of people living with HIV/AIDS in India
who require ART is estimated to be about 5 lakh persons,
based on 51 lakhs estimated to be HIV infected in the
country.
(b) & (c) : Yes sir.
Free ART services are available in six high prevalent
states of the country, that is, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland and NCT
Delhi at ten selected Government Hospitals. Details of the
names of these hospitals and number of beneficiaries are
given at Annexure I attached.
Six additional hospitals that have also been sanctioned for
free ART services are Government Medical Colleges at Guntur
and Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, Meeraj (Sangli) in
Maharashtra, Madhurai and Madras Medical College Chennai in
Tamilnadu and JLN Hospital Imphal in Manipur.
(d): The number of people planned to be covered under ARV
treatment by the end of 2005 is 25,000.
