(a) & (b): SAIL is making concerted and continuous efforts to reduce expenditure through cost control/reduction measures such as improvement of yield, reduction in consumption of coking coal and other raw materials, reduction in consumption of power and fuel of stores and spares, improvement in other techno-economic parameters, etc.. Austerity measures include inter-alia trimming/closure of liaison offices, judicious use of telecommunication facilities instead of undertaking journeys, reduction of other administrative expenses, reduction in manpower through VRS and deferment of leave travel facility.
(c) The implementation of the above measures have resulted in saving of about Rs.800 crores during 1999-2000.
