Question : AYUSH Medicine for Coronavirus Infection

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether it is a fact that the AYUSH ministry had issued a public “advisory” that named several formulations from Ayurveda and Arsenicum Album 30 from Homoeopathy as part of preventive measures against the novel coronavirus; if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the AYUSH department conducted any comprehensive examinations and studies before the announcement including sufficient stock of Arsenicum Album 30 medicine;

(c) if so, the details thereof including requisition of Arsenicum Album 30 received from the various States and disbursement thereof; and

(d) the details of the scientific procedure gone through/adopted by the ministry to arrive at the specific formulations?

(a) to (d): Yes. An advisory based on textual references of AYUSH system of medicine for prevention of Corona virus infection was released in Press Information Bureau (PIB). The Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy and Siddha are advocated for health promotion prevention of diseases. As such, the advisory in terms of Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy and Siddha is general in nature. People should also follow general measures as per health advisory.
However, Central Council for Research in Hemoeopathy (CCRH) is of view that the positive results from the genus epidemicus as prophylactic during epidemic outbreaks of various diseases during recent past, Scientific Advisory Board of the Council discussed to find out possible genus epidemicus for recent outbreak of corona virus in China. The sign and symptoms of the patients were referred from the recent publication from the clinical history of patients of Wuhan, China in Lancet titled, “Clinical features of patients infected with 2019 novel corona virus in Wuhan, China”.
Analysis of these symptoms was made to find out the genus Epidemicus and following recommendation were made:
• Arsenicum album 30C album could be advised as genus Epidemicus as preventive against Corona virus infection.
• Moreover, Arsenic album is a common prescription in the cases of respiratory infections in day to day practice.
Further, on request received via e-mail on 20.2.2020 from Matoshri Health Trust, Mumbai, Maharashtra, CCRH agreed to provide medicine through Regional Research Institute (H), Mumbai.
