Question : Capital Acquisition Projects for Navy

(b) if so, the reasons therefor and the manner in which it will affect our defence preparedness; and
(c) the status of National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (NIRDESH) which is proposed to help Navy with designing war ships indigenously?

Answer given by the minister

(a) & (b): The prioritization of Capital Acquisition Plan is undertaken by Indian Navy (IN) in line with the available fiscal resources. This is done to ensure that the resources allotted to the IN are utilized judiciously through prioritization, close monitoring of ongoing projects and periodic reviews and also to prevent degradation of IN’s force level and the ability to provide Maritime Security to the country.
(c) The National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (NIRDESH) was set up as an Autonomous Society of the Ministry of Defence. The objective of NIRDESH is to enhance self reliance in Warship and submarine building. The future road map of NIRDESH is under deliberation.
