Question : MoU with Hungary for Water Management

(a) whether India and Hungary have agreed to encourage the development of bilateral relations between public and private organizations concerning the water resources of both countries and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether it is likely to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of water management on the basis of equality and mutual benefits;
(c) if so, the extent to which India is likely to be benefited from joint activities, mutual exchange of scientific delegations and experts in the field of water resources development/management;
(d) whether any MoU has been signed in this regard, and if so, the salient feature thereof; and
(e) the time by which it is likely to be implemented?

(a) to (c) Yes, Madam. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed on 16.10.2016 during Vice President’s visit to Budapest, to develop, promote, and strengthen the bilateral cooperation between India and Hungary in the field of water resources development and management. The objectives of the MoU are to strengthen technological, scientific and management capabilities of both countries in the field of water management.


(d) The areas of cooperation include Integrated Water Resources Management, River Basin Management Planning, Water and Waste Water Management, water related education, research & development.

(e) The Ministry will take benefits of the MoU which will remain in force for 5 years from 16 October 2016 in the first instance.
