Question : User Charges from Transit Passengers

(a) whether the Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL) has requested the Government to amend rules that exempt transit passengers from paying user charges and fees if their connecting flight is within 24 hours of their arrival and also reduce the exempted transit time to six hours;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the decision taken by the Government on the above request?

(a) to (c): Yes Madam. Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL) had sent a proposal to reduce the exempted hours for transiting passengers at airports from existing 24 hours to 6 hours for the purpose of levy and collection of user charges. The proposal was examined in consultation with stakeholders i.e. Airports Authority of India, Federation of Indian Airlines and other airport operators and based on their views, it was decided to retain the existing exemption in respect of transit passengers.
