Question : NATURAL CALAMITIES



(a) whether various parts of the country were affected by natural calamities including heavy rains, cloud burst, floods and cyclonic storms in the last few years;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the loss of lives, livestock and damages to crops, public and private property/ infrastructure during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has deputed Central teams to visit the affected States;

(d) if so, the details of the findings of such teams; and

(e) the details of assistance sought by the affected States along with the funds allocated/released for relief operations and compensation to the affected people etc. during the said period, State-wise?

(a) to (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 206 FOR 22.07.2014.

(a) & (b): The details of the losses due to natural disasters reported by the State Governments/ Union Territories during the last three years and current year are at Annexure-I.

(c) to (e): The concerned State Governments undertake relief operations in the wake of natural disasters from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) already placed at their disposal. When the available resources under the SDRF are inadequate, an additional assistance is extended from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) by following the laid down procedure, which includes an assessment based on the visit of an Inter-Ministerial Central Team. The financial assistance is towards relief and not for compensation of loss.

State-wise details of the assistance sought, dates of the visits of the Central Teams constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, status of teams’ reports and assistance approved during the last three years, are given at Annexure-II.

Details of allocation and releases from SDRF and NDRF during the last three years and the current year are given in Annexure-III.
