(a) whether the Railways has signed an agreement for procurement of high class stainless steel freight wagons, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Railways have identified the likely benefit of the agreement on the expansion plan and supply/inventory of wagons; and

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.250 BY SHRIMATI K. MARAGATHAM TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 16.12.2015 REGARDING STEEL FREIGHT WAGONS


(a) Yes, Madam. An Assured-off Take agreement has been signed by Ministry of Railways with Sail Rites Bengal Wagon Industry Pvt. Ltd. (SRBWIPL) (A Joint Venture company between Steel Authority of India Ltd.(SAIL) and Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) ) for procuring 1200 BOXNHL/BCNHL wagons per annum for a period of ten years.

(b) & (c) Railways will receive 1200 new light weight stainless steel wagons per annum from this factory to cater to increasing traffic requirement. The factory will also be free to produce wagons for other customers beyond the quantity assured to Indian Railways.
