Question : KARGIL FUND



(a) the details of contributions made by different State Governments and voluntary organisations towards Kargil fund;

(b) whether the Government have received complaints that certain State Governments have spent the funds collected for the above purpose in other heads; and

(c) if so, the names of the State Governments which have diverted the funds and the policy of the Government in this regard?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 211 FOR 9.3.2000.

Government have no information about funds collected by State Governments and other agencies in the wake of the Kargil conflict.

Government have not received any complaint alleging that the funds collected by State Governments and other agencies for the benefit of casualties in Kargil operations have been used for other purposes. However, a Member of Rajya Sabha had mentioned on 7th December, 1999, by way of Special Mention, that a sum of Rs. 11 crores was collected in the Kargil Mukhyamantri Kosh in Madhya Pradesh, but only a sum of Rs. 1 crore was spent on the welfare of soldiers. The State Government has been requested to send a report in the matter.
