Question : OPERATION TO SEIZE ILLEGAL ARMS



(a) whether the Government is likely to start combing operation to seize all illegal arms and ammunition in BTAD areas of Assam and re-instate all the security camps which were established after the BTAD violence in 2013 to protect the life and property of people living in the said areas of Assam; and

(b) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (b): According to available information, combing and search operations by the State Police/Security Forces have been continuing in Kokrajhar, Chirang and other districts of Assam for recovery of illegal arms for the last three years. As per Report, total number of arms seized during 2011 and upto May, 2014 in BTAD Area is 471, ammunitions seized is 2,406 and 321 persons were arrested during these operations. Additional Companies of Central Armed Police forces have been deployed for maintenance of law and order and protection of the life and property of the people in the said areas of Assam.
