Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING (SMT. SUSHMA SWARAJ)

(a) & (b): Whereas in respect of radio signals Bihar is fully covered, by population as well as by area, Doordarshan coverage is available all over the country, including Bihar, in satellite mode. However, terrestrial TV coverage is presently estimated to be available to about 93.3% population of the State (including the population in fringe areas).

(c) & (d): Prasar Bharati does not have a policy to set up TV Transmitters/Radio Stations at every city/town in a state but it is the constant endeavour to expand the AIR/Doordarshan coverage to uncovered areas of the country. For further expansion of TV coverage in Bihar, the following five transmitter projects viz. are presently under implementation:

For DD-I Service	-	Low Power Transmitters (LPT) at Ramnagar,	Kishanganj and Banka
For DD-2 Service - High Power Transmitter at Muzaffarapur Ad LPT at Gaya.

These projects are at different stages of implementation and all steps are being taken to ensure timely completion of these projects.
