Question : Decrease in Tatkal Quota Seats

(a) whether the Government is considering to increase or decrease the number of seats in all the trains under the Tatkal Scheme;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is formulating any such scheme to enable the passenger to travel even on unconfirmed ticket booked against tatkal quota so that passenger can do his important work on time or reach home on time; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Instructions have been issued to Zonal Railways to earmark up to 30% of the accommodation as Tatkal. However, the actual extent of accommodation to be earmarked under Tatkal scheme is decided by Zonal Railways on the basis of demand pattern and availability of accommodation. Tatkal quota so earmarked is reviewed on periodical basis and adjustments made, wherever required based on utilization subject to maximum limit mentioned above. This is a continuous process.
