Question : COMPENSATION TO LAND OWNERS



(a) whether it has come to the notice of the Government regarding environmental problems at mining area of Indian Rare Earth Limited,Chavara,Kerala;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has received any complaint regarding sanctioning of appropriate amount of compensation for land owners whose land were acquired by the company;and

(d) if so, the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(b) Not applicable.

(c) & (d) Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL), a public sector undertaking of the Department has mining operations at three places ie. Orissa Sands Complex (OSCOM), Chatrapur, Orissa; Chavara at Kerala and Manavalakurichi in Tamil Nadu. While no complaints have been received in OSCOM and Chavara, one complaint has been received in Manavalakurichi.The complaint has been dealt with suitably.
