(a) whether there were encounters between the terrorists and police/ security forces in Jammu and Kashmir during 1999-2000, till date;

(b) if so, the details of each of such incidents alongwith persons suffered casualties/ terrorists arrested in each encounter;

(c) the schemes and programmes evolved to combat terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and in other disturbed parts of the country; and

(d) the details of programme chalked out in this regard ?

(c)&(d): With a view to tackle the problem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the Government has adopted a multi-pronged approach which includes, inter-alia, stregthening the border management, neutralising plans of the militants by pro-active action against them in the hinter land, gearing up intelligence machinary, greater functional integration through an institutional frame work of Operations Groups and Intelligence Groups of the UHQ at all levels, improved technology, weapons and equipments for Security Forces. Steps are being taken to flush out terrorists and curb terrorist activities including closer vigil on the border, establishment of more naka parties in depth areas to check infiltration/exfiltration, more pickets, intensive patrolling and extensive cordon and search operation.
