Question : New Sainik Schools

(a) whether the Government proposes to open new Sainik Schools in various States of the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise including Maharashtra;

(c) whether any coordination has been established with State Governments and the Ministry of Education regarding opening of new schools in view of the quality of education in Sainik Schools;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the number of new Sainik Schools set up during the last three years along with the details of the number of schools functioning at present in the country, State-wise?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 136 FOR ANSWER ON 10.02.2021 REGARDING ‘NEW SAINIK SCHOOLS’.

(a) to (d): Sainik schools under the existing pattern, are established on receipt of a request from the State Government who also need to agree to provide land alongwith funds for the creation and maintenance of basic infrastructure, purchase of equipment and other facilities besides provding scholarships for the cadets belonging to the state Government. Once land is found suitable and other requirements are agreed to, an in-principle approval is accorded, followed by signing of a Memorandum of Agreement.
Now, the Government is proposing to bring a new scheme for setting up Sainik schools in the country in partnership with NGOs/private schools/states etc. The endeavor is to provide schooling opportunities in “CBSE Plus” type of educational environment by involving desirous Government/Private schools/NGOs to partner in establishing/aligning their system with Sainik Schools’ ethos, value system and national pride. It envisages enrolling existing/upcoming schools to be run on the lines of Sainik Schools’ curriculum. The schools are proposed to be affiliated to Sainik Schools Society. Such affiliated Sainik Schools will be provided with part financial support to incentivize the effort. Detailed guidelines and requisite approvals are at an advance stage.

(e) State-wise details of new Sainik Schools set up during the last three years alongwith Sainik Schools functioning at present in the country, are placed at Annexure.
