(a) the details of schemes formulated by the Union Government under the National Environment Awareness Campaign for the year 2008-09;

(b) the amount allocated by the Union Government to various States including West Bengal for this purpose; and

(c) the extent of improvement likely to be brought out in the field of environment as a result of such schemes?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS (SHRI NAMO NARAIN MEENA)

(a) A nation wide campaign called the National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) is conducted every year with the objective of creating environmental awareness at the national level. In this campaign, nominal financial assistance is provided to NGOs, schools, colleges, universities, research institutions, women and youth organisations, army units, government departments etc. from all over the country for organizing and conducting activities aimed at creating awareness followed by action.

(b) No fixed amount has been allocated State-wise. The estimated amount for the entire country is Rs. 6.00 crores approximately.

(c) These activities are likely to result in enhanced awareness level amongst the general public.
