STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.*447 ANSWERED ON 04.04.2022 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF KHAJURAHO AS INTERNATIONAL TOURIST DESTINATION.
(a) to (c): The Ministry of Tourism as part of its ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme has sanctioned a project ‘Development of Gwalior – Orchha – Khajuraho – Chanderi – Bhimbetka – Mandu’ under heritage theme in the year 2016-17 for a total amount of Rs.89.82 crore. Under this project, multiple interventions have been sanctioned in Khajuraho & its surrounding areas for development of tourism infrastructure, the details of which are annexed.
Further, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated ‘Development of Iconic Tourist Destinations’ scheme for development of Iconic Destinations including Khajuraho, which is under consideration of the Government.
