Question : National medical plants boards

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the National Medical Plants Board is functional/operational in the country;

(b) if so, the work which has been assigned to them;

(c) if not, whether the Government has set up or proposes to set up any Substitute board; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Yes. The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) setup by Government of India in year 2000 is functional/ operational in the country.

(b): The function/work assigned to NMPB is to coordinate with various ministries/ department/ organizations in India and implements, support policies/ programmes for overall (Conservation, Cultivation, Research & Development, Information, Education & Communication and market interventions) growth of medicinal plants sector in the country.

(c) & (d): In view of (a) above, the questions does not arise.
