MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (DR. D. PURANDESWARI)

(a) to (c): The Government receives complaints regarding functioning of teacher education institutions established across the country under the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Act, 1993 which are enquired into by the NCTE, the regulatory body for teacher education institutions. The NCTE takes action in respect of the complaints, including inspection of the institutions under section 13 of the NCTE Act, and withdrawal of recognition under section 17 of the NCTE Act. During 2010 and 2011, the total number of teacher education courses/institutions of which recognition was withdrawn by the Regional Committees of the NCTE was 404 and 317, respectively.
