Question : REGIONAL NEWS ON NATIONAL CHANNEL



(a) whether the Government proposes to broadcast regional news through Doordarshan Channel/Akashwani in Sambalpuri and other regional languages every day;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government proposes to telecast drama in various languages on Doordarshan Channel; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, language-wise including Hindi and Gujarati?

(a) & (b): Prasar Bharati has informed that 44 Regional News Units (RNUs) of News Services Division, All India Radio(AIR) produce/broadcast regional news bulletins. 7 Regional News Units of AIR are being set up at Jodhpur, Rajkot, Vishakhapatnam, Darbhanga, Sambalpur, Passighat and Kargil for production/ broadcast of regional news bulletins during 11th Five Year Plan.. Decision on the language of news bulletins is taken only after setting up of new RNUs as per the language policy of AIR. Doordarshan telecast news bulletins through 24 RNUs and one News Bureau, Chandigarh. Details are given in Annexure.

(c) & (d): Prasar Bharati has informed that Doordarshan telecasts drama in Hindi and in different regional languages including Gujarati from its major Kendras from time to time.
