MINISTER OF STATE (REVENUE) IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI GINGEE N. RAMACHANDRAN)
(a) & (b): 162.08 Kgs. of gold worth Rs. 7.07 crores (approx.)
was seized by DRI and Customs officials at Chennai Airport and other
air terminals in Tamil Nadu during last 3 years, i.e., 1999-2000,
2000-2001 & 2001-2002. There was no seizure of silver during the
said period. The date-wise list/details of the seizures made during
the said period alongwith quantity and value of gold seized are as
per Annexure.
(c) & (d): Reward is given to the informers or the persons who
give tips/clues to nab the smugglers as per reward policy framed by
the Government. Reward of Rs. 1.36 crores (approx.) has been given
to informers for seizures made in Tamil Nadu during the last 3 years,
i.e., 1999-2000, 2000-2001 & 2001-2002.
