Question : BUS TRANSPORT DISPUTE BETWEEN DELHI AND U.P



(a) whether the dispute between the Government of U.P. and Delhi pertaining to bus transport has not been resolved even after the intervention of the Hon’ble Court ;

(b) Whether the Government is aware of the problems being faced by the people from Delhi and vice versa to reach their work places; and

(c) the action being taken by the Central Government to resolve the problem ?

(a) As per the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the State Governments can enter into agreements for operation of bus services between them. The procedure for entering into such agreements has been prescribed under section 88 (5) of the M.V.Act, 1988. The Court has not given any direction to this Department in the matter relating to the dispute between Government of U.P. and Delhi for bus transport services.

(b)&(c) Road Transport falls under the purview of State Governments.It is for the concerned States to provide efficient, well coordinated passenger transport services for its people.
