Question : SAFETY OF MINE WORKERS FROM DISEASES



(a) the total number of mines workers in public and private sector which are facing with occupational diseases like asbestosis, silicosis, byesinosis, pneumoconiosis and other dust related diseases; and

(b) the safety/ preventive measures being taken by Government to safeguard the workers?

(a) : As per records available with the Directorate General of Mines Safety, few cases of notified occupational diseases have been reported from some mines in various mining companies from the public and private sectors.

The details of cases reported to Directorate General of Mines Safety in the last five years is given below:

(b) : Measures to prevent occurrence of occupational diseases have been prescribed under the Mines Act, 1952 and its subordinate legislation framed thereunder.
