(a) & (b): This Ministry was implementing the Centrally Sponsored Sports Infrastructure Schemes for the creation of Sports facilities at various places in the country, including schools, till 31.3.2005. Government have transferred the Sports Infrastructure Schemes to the State Sector w.e.f. 1.4.2005. Central assistance was being provided in accordance with approved pattern subject to receipt of viable proposals from the State governments including West Bengal. No State-wise funds were allocated under the Sports Infrastructure Schemes for promotion of Sports. However, the details of funds released to Government of West Bengal including Schools under the Schemes of “Grant for Creation of Sports Infrastructure” and “Grants to Rural Schools for Purchase of Sports Equipment and Development of Playground” during the last five years i.e. 2000-01 to 2004-05 have been given as under:
