Question : Submission of Fake Documents for obtaining Passports

(a) whether the Government is aware that cases of producing fake documents for issuing passports/Tatkal passports are increasing;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(c) the State-wise number of police reports registered during the last three years;
(d) whether the Government is aware of the forgery taking place in verification of ''Tatkal Passport''; and
(e) if so, the measures likely to be taken to permanently prevent such incidents?

(a) The Government is aware of incidences of producing fake documents for issuing passports/tatkal passports. In majority of these cases, the requisite Verification Certificates for obtaining “Tatkal passports” were found to be fake. In other cases, forged birth certificates/residence proof/consent affidavits by parents of minor applicants have also been produced.

(b) & (c ) The state-wise list of number of police reports registered duing the last three years is enclosed (Annexure – A)

(d) & (e) The Government is aware of the forgery taking place in cases of Verification Certificates for obtaining “Tatkal passports”. In these cases, the Verification Certificates are usually sent to the issuing authorities for confirmation. In case, the Verification Certificate is found to be fake, the passport is impounded/ revoked as appropriate. In cases of serious nature, the matter is reported to the police authorities for further investigation.
