Question : Preservation of Ancient Folk Culture of Bihar

(a) the names of ancient folk cultures in the States of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar for which work is being carried out for their preservation including the details of the works being carried out along with the names of schemes under which the said works are being done;

(b) the names of places of these States to which these folk cultures belong;

(c) the amount of funds sanctioned or allocated for these preserved folk cultures in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during the last three years;

(d) the details of works being carried out for preserving these folk cultures; and

(e) the outcome of the said work done?

(a) & (b) To protect, preserve & promote various forms of folk art and culture throughout the country, the Government of India has set up seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) with headquarters at Patiala, Nagpur, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Dimapur and Thanjavur. These ZCCs organize various cultural activities and programmes all over the country on regular basis for which annual grant-in-aid is provided to them. A number of schemes viz. Award to Young Talented Artists, Guru Shishya Parampara, Theatre Rejuvenation, Research & Documentation, Shilpgram, OCTAVE and National Cultural Exchange Programme (NCEP) are being implemented by these ZCCs. The names of prominent ancient folk cultures alongwith places to which they belong, in the States of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are annexed (Annexure).

(c) No funds are provided directly to States/UTs. However, annual grant-in-aid is provided to all the ZCCs for organizing various cultural activities/ programmes in their member States including Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. The grant-in-aid provided to the ZCCs during the last three years is as under:

(e) The outcome is to spread awareness amongst the younger generation about the rich cultural heritage of the country, impart training, provide a platform to the artists to showcase their talent as also provide means of livelihood to the artists engaged by all the ZCCs for conducting number of cultural activities and programmes throughout the country.
