Question : Vernacular Languages in Examinations

(a) whether the government has received any representations for allowing the candidates to use Scheduled language including Kannada to appear in the examinations conducted by the Railways and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has issued any guidelines in this regard; and

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the total number of candidates who used vernacular languages in their examinations during the last three years, year and Scheduled language-wise?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.124 BY SHRI D. K. SURESH AND SHRI NALIN KUMAR KATEEL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 27.11.2019 REGARDING VERNACULAR LANGUAGES IN EXAMINATIONS

(a) Yes, Sir. Representations were received requesting for conducting all competitive examinations by Railways in Tamil and Regional languages also.
(b) Yes, Sir.
(c) For examinations for Direct Recruitment, instructions provide for an option of any of fifteen (15) languages, which include Hindi and English and 13 vernacular languages. There is also no restriction regarding the question papers in local/regional languages for General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE).
The details of candidates who used vernacular languages in last 3 (three) years is appended.
