Question : Veterinary Treatment of Cattle

(a) whether there is no proper veterinary arrangement for the treatment of cattle as a result of which a large number of cattle die every year in the country;

(b) whether the Government has formulated any scheme to avoid the loss of the livestock;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Animal Husbandry is a State subject and as per information gathered from states / UTs, there are arrangements for the treatment of cattle including availability of medicines in veterinary hospital / dispensary at every block.

(b) & (c) Supplementing efforts of the States /UTs, Central Government provides financial assistance for eradication and control of major animal diseases through vaccination namely Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Classical swine fever (CSF) , Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis and other economically important, exotic, emergent and zoonotic animal diseases. Assistance is also provided for establishment and strengthening of mobile veterinary units (MVUs) for providing veterinary services covering remote areas. Till date, 4332 MVUs have been sanctioned to different states /UTs.
