STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) & (b) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 230 DUE FOR REPLY ON 9TH JULY, 2019.
(a): As per the report received from States and Agriculture Processed Food and Export Development Authority (APEDA),at present organic farming is taken up in an area of 27.70 lakh hectares in the country including 5.98 lakh hectares under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) , 0.639 lakh hectares under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) , 19.38 lakh hectares under National Program for Organic Production (NPOP) of APEDA and 1.70 lakh hectares under other initiatives. The State-wise details of the area covered under PKVY, MOVCDNER, NPOP and others is given at Annexure-I
(b): The total number of farmers participated in trainings / workshop organised on organic farming in the last three years and in current year is 15.14 lakh. The state/ UT wise details of farmers participated in trainings is at Annexure- ll.
Awareness generation among farmers through trainings, field visits are integral part of organic farming schemes of PKVY, MOVCDNER. Similarly, National Centre for organic Farming (NCOF), the subordinate office of DAC&FW is also involved in extension activities and conducts Farmers’ Training and Field Demonstration Programmes (FTFD) under Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and jaivik sammelan programmes. Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) under All India- National Project on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF) conducts training, exposure visit and field demonstrations of technologies besides exhibition of technologies in Kisan Mela.
