Question : Distress Sale

(a) whether the poor farmers are still not out of the clutches of moneylenders, businessmen and middlement and are still selling their products at prices lower than Minimum Support Price (MSP);
(b) if so, whether, the Government is formulating any scheme to pay the farmers immediately for the products purchased from them; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) : Government announces Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 22 major agricultural commodities of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) each year in both the Crop seasons after taking into account the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). Government also extends Price Support for procurement of these notified crops through designated Central Nodal Agencies.
Further, due to announcement of MSP and procurement of the government, the overall market also responds which result in private procurement on or above the MSP. All the payments for procurement by Central agencies / State agencies to the farmers are made directly into their bank accounts immediately from the date of procurement from farmers.
