Question : DOUBLING PROJECT OF IRUGUR COIMBATORE LINE



(a) whether the doubling project of Irugur-Coimbatore line sanctioned in 1996 with an outlay of Rs. 20 crores has not yet been completed due to allocation of inadequate funds in the consequent budgets;

(b) if so, the progress made so far on the construction of the project and the revised estimated cost of the project; and

(c) the time by which the project is expected to be completed?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS ( SHRI R. VELU )

(a): The work of doubling of Irugur-Coimbatore was accorded lower operation priority keeping in view the availability of resources.

(b): The up line between Coimbatore and Coimbatore North has already been completed and commissioned. Earthwork, bridge works and ballast supply are in progress in balance portion. The anticipated cost of the project is Rs. 38.66 crore.

(c): The work is likely to be completed depending upon availability of resources.
