Question : CBI CASES AGAINST CUSTOMS AND EXCISE OFFICIALS



(a) whether the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBl) has registered cases against the officials of Customs 8c Excise Department;

(b) if so= the number of cases registered by CBl during each of the last three years ; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to get the cases expedited ?

(a) Yes; Sir. The CBl has registered cases against some officials of Customs & Excise Department.

(b) The number of cases registered by the CBl during each of the last three years are as follows :

(c) . For getting the CBI cases expedited, following action is taken by the Department:

(i) In cases, where the CBI has submitted its report after conclusion of investigation, the Department takes expeditious action in accordance with the recommendations of CBI viz., granting sanction for prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (PCA) and /or initiating Regular Disciplinary Proceedings under CCS (CCA) Rules after obtaining advice of CVC, wherever required.

(ii) As regards the cases under investigation by CBI, necessary assistance is provided by the Department to CBI for expediting the investigation by furnishing required records/ infomiation and also other assistance.
