Question : Data on Cases Investigated

(a) whether the Government has any information about the State-wise number of officers and other persons who have been raided and the extent of property including its value recovered by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a particular year during the last three years and the current year;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the basis on which the Government reviews the working of CBI in the absence of such information/data; and

(d) the measures taken by the Government in this regard?

(a)&(b): Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducts searches at various places from time to time during the investigation in accordance with law, depending upon requirement of the cases. Government does not interfere in the investigation of cases including searches/raids carried out by CBI.

(c)&(d): The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) exercises superintendence over the functioning of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in so far as it relates to investigation of offences alleged to have been committed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. CVC takes regular review meetings with CBI from time to time in this regard.

Further, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) furnishes month wise report on the working of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), wherein details of cases/number of cases registered by various wings of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), cases pending investigation, disposal of cases from investigation, charge-sheeted cases, disposal of cases from trial, conviction rates, to the Government. Regular meetings are convened under the chairmanship of officers of this Department from time to time with respect to various pending issues of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
