Question : Shut Down of Automobile Manufacturing Companies

(a) the details and the number of foreign automobile manufacturing companies that have left India or reduced operations during the last five years;

(b) whether the Government is aware of reports that this is due to red tapism and high taxes;

(c) if so, whether the Government plans to address these issues; and

(d) the number of car manufacturing units and plants that have been shut down during the said period and their distribution, State-wise?

(a): As per information received from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the following automobile companies have closed down their operations during last five years:-
i) MAN Trucks
ii) General motors
iii) Harley Davidson
iv) UM Motorcycles
v) Honda cars (the company has stopped its production in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh and made Tapukara plant in Rajasthan a unified manufacturing base)

(b): No such thing has been reported

(c): Does not arise in view of (b)

(d): The state-wise details of car manufacturing units and plants that have been shut down during the said period are as below:

i) General Motors- Maharashtra
ii) Honda Cars- Uttar Pradesh
