Question : Housing Projects for Urban Poor

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to provide financial assistance for the land required for housing projects for the urban poor in Uttar Pradesh and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government is considering to amend unit cost of housing projects in view of the increasing cost of building construction material and the labour, if so, the details thereof including the additional assistance likely to be provided for such projects; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

246* DUE FOR 02.08.2017 REGARDING HOUSING PROJECTS FOR URBAN POOR.


(a) : No, Madam. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) [PMAY(U)] does not envisage providing financial assistance for the land required for housing projects for the urban poor.

(b) & (c): No, Madam, there is no such proposal. Land and colonization being State subjects, it is the responsibility of the State/UT to provide houses to eligible urban beneficiaries. Central Government, through PMAY(U), creates an enabling environment for the States/UTs in their efforts to meet the housing requirements and facilitates them by providing fixed financial assistance per house as envisaged in the Scheme Guidelines.
