Question : STATE HIGHWAYS AND NHS IN UTTAR PRADESH



(a) the number of National Highways (NHs) and State Highways in the State of Uttar Pradesh especially in Allahabad;

(b) the details of the road transport and highway schemes being implemented by the Union Government in Uttar Pradesh including four/six/eight lane NH projects during the last three years and the current year;

(c) the funds provided for each project in Uttar Pradesh during the financial year 2014-15 including new projects lying pending for approval; and

(d) whether several National Highways of Uttar Pradesh are in a bad condition and the details thereof along with action proposed to be taken in this regard?

(a) This Ministry is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways in the country. 50 numbers of National Highways pass through Uttar Pradesh and 6 numbers, through Allahabad.

(b) National Highway schemes covering a length of 2700 km are being implemented during the last three years including the current financial year.

(c) Allocation is made scheme-wise, State-wise and not project wise.

(d) Some National Highways in Uttar Pradesh namely, NH-29 (Varanasi-Gorakhpur road), NH-24B (Raebareili-Allahabad road), NH-232 (Tanda-Raebareili-Banda road), NH-91 (Aligarh-Kanpur road), NH-87 (Rampur-Rudrapur road) and NH-24 (Bareilly-Sitapur road) were in damaged condition since the envisaged development works could not take off due to various reasons such as delays in land acquisition, forest clearance, backing out by the contractors and no response to the tender etc. However, efforts have already been made to maintain these National Highways in traffic worthy condition.
