Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT
(RAO INDERJIT SINGH)

(a): No, Madam. Urban transport projects including monorail projects are initiated by the concerned State Government/UT Administration/ Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

(b) to (d): In last three years, Central Government has received only one monorail proposal.
Government of Tamil Nadu had sought ‘in-principle’ approval for implementing a Monorail Project (Phase-I) from Poonamallee to Kathipara with a link from Porur to Vadaplani of about 20.68 kms at an estimated cost of Rs.3,267 crores under Design, Build, Finance, Operation & Transfer (DBFOT) model. ‘In principle’ approval was accorded to the proposal with no financial support from the Government of India. No funds have been sanctioned/released in the last three years and current year for monorail projects.
