Question : AYUSH Doctors

(a) whether the Government is aware that some States have given permission to AYUSH doctors to prescribe allopathic medicines;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Union Government is considering to authorise the AYUSH doctors to prescribe allopathic medicines by providing a one year bridge course; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (b): Public Health is a State subject and giving permission to AYUSH Doctors to prescribe Allopathic Medicines in the States comes under the purview of respective State/ UT Governments.
The right of persons to practice ISM (Indian System of Medicine) practitioner is protected under Section 34 of NCISM Act, 2020 (Details are available on https://egazette.nic.in/WriteReadData/2020/221863.pdf). However, a few State Governments have permitted Ayurvedic Doctors to prescribe certain essential Allopathic Medicines.

(c) & (d): The Ministry of Ayush is not considering authorizing the AYUSH Doctors to prescribe Allopathic Medicines by providing a one-year bridge course.
