Question : Cash Deposit Machines

(a) whether the Government has got any data regarding cash deposit machines in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise /Union Territory-wise;

(c) whether there is shortage of cash depositmachines in the country and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the action taken/being taken by the Government to increase the number of cash deposit machines in the country?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE


(a) to (d) As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular DBR.No.BAPD.BC.68/22.01.001/2014-15 dated 02 February 2015, Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) (including RRBs) are permitted to install Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) / Bunch Note Acceptor Machines (BNAMs) at centres/places identified by them without having the need to take permission from RBI in each case. The said circular has also stipulated as under:
a. CDMs/ BNAMs may be installed at any place identified by banks with adequate security arrangements;
b. CDMs/BNAMs should not return any note which is suspect / counterfeit to the customer; and
c. An audit trail of transactions should be available to enable reporting detection of counterfeit notes.
Decisions regarding the deployment of CDMs by banks are taken as per the extant RBI guidelines, Board approved policy of the banks and as per the viability of CDM in a given location
