(a) whether the Government is planning to contribute Packaging Industry in the global market;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether Packaging Industry can create demand for various products;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has found a solution for recycling and reusing of plastic in food industries and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): For the development of packaging industry, the Government had established the Indian Institute of Packaging, an autonomous body under the administrative control of Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The main objective of the Institute is to promote the export market by way of innovative package design and development and also to upgrade the packaging standards at National Level. The Institute has also linkages with the international packaging industries and federations in the capacity of founder member and member in various international forums such Asian Packaging Federation (APF), World Packaging Organization (WPO), Institute of Packaging professionals, UK, MOU’s with leading international publishers such as M/S Springers, Germany, etc., The Institute is regularly contributing to the cause of the Indian as well as international packaging industry in the form of organizing international training programme, dissemination of information through in house international peer reviewed journal of Packaging Technology and Research, organizing national and international exhibitions, seminars, conferences and workshops in collaborations with these international organizations.
(c) & (d): The packaging industry can create demand for various products as each and every product requires packaging which not only contains, protects and preserves it throughout its supply chain but also promotes and adds value to the product by providing valuable information as well as giving the product an aesthetic appeal thereby acting as a silent salesman and creating demand for various products.
(e): Bureau of Indian Standards have formulated Indian Standards (IS 14534, 14535) for recycling of plastics as well as recycled plastics for the manufacture of products to promote recycling and reuse of plastics. However, the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018 provides that the products made of recycled plastics including carry bags shall not be used for packaging, storing, carrying or dispensing articles of food.
