Question : REIMBURSEMENT TO PENSIONERS



(a) whether there is any provision for reimbursement of medical expenses incurred on account of treatment of serious ailments by the retired Government employees;

(b) if so, whether this facility is available to those employees who were availing the C.G.H.S. facility during their services;

(c) if so, whether such employees also get full reimbursement who did not avail this facility due to non-availability of hospital near their residence after retirement; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes, Sir. The pensioners who are CGHS beneficiaries and hold a valid CGHS card are eligible for reimbursement of medical expenditure incurred by them on their serious ailments, provided the treatment is taken in a CGHS covered city after following the proper procedures prescribed by the Government.

(b) Yes, Sir.

(c)&(d) The serving Central Government employees are reimbursed the medical expenditure at the rates fixed by the Government, if the treatment is taken in a private recognised hospital under CGHS or under CS(MA) Rules, 1944, with the prior permission of the authorities. If the treatment is taken in a Government hospital, full reimbursement is made to the Government servants.
