The programme of Development of Forest Villages was launched in 2005-06 for welfare of the inhabitants of the forest villages, which were originally estimated to be about 2.5 lakh tribal families. State-wise details of inhabitants/ beneficiaries is not maintained. However, all the residents of such forest villages are intended to be covered under the programme. Under the programme, infrastructure work relating to basic services and facilities viz. approach roads, healthcare, primary education, minor irrigation, rainwater harvesting, drinking water, sanitation, community halls, etc. are taken up for implementation.
