Question : Tap Water to All

(a) whether the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) aims to provide tap water to all the households of our country by 2024 and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has recently reviewed the performance of JJM in the country including Maharashtra; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) To make provision for potable tap water supply to every rural home by 2024, Government of India is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in partnership with States, with an estimated outlay of Rs. 3.60 lakh Crore. At the time of launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August, 2019, out of total 18.94 Crore rural households in the country, 3.23 (17%) crore rural households had tap water connections. Since then, 4.52 Crore (23.84%) rural households have been provided with tap water connections thus, as on date, 7.76 Crore (40.89%) rural households have provision of tap water supply.

(b) & (c) This Department is regularly reviewing the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission with respective State governments to expedite the implementation of the mission to achieve the goal in a time-bound manner. Annual Action Plan (2021-22) of Maharashtra was discussed on 25th June, 2021, inter alia which included review of progress made so far, and planning and implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission to make provision of tap water supply to every home by 2024.
