Question : REVIVAL OF CLOSED FERTILIZER UNITS



(a) the present status of the closed Talcher plant in Orissa operated by Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd.

(b) whether the Government is formulating any scheme to revive the plant;

(c) if so, whether the Government has received any proposal in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof:

(e) whether the Government proposes to hand over the said plant to the private sector; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f) Pursuant to Government decision for closure of the various units of Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd ( FCIL) in 2002, the Talcher Unit of FCIL has been` closed. However, pursuant to the decision of the Government on 12.4.2007 inter-alia to examine the possibility of reviving the various units of FCIL subject to the confirmed availability of gas, various options for reviving the FCIL including the Talcher unit are being examined.Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limitea (RCF), a fertilizer Public Sector Undertaking under the Administrative control of Department of Fertilizers has shown interest in the revival of Talcher unit and has got a Techno- Economic Feasibility Report (TFER) prepared in this regard, which is under examination. Presently, there is no proposal to hand over the unit to the private sector.
