Question : FLOOD IN NORTH EASTERN STATES



(a) whether Assam and other flood affected States in the North Eastern Region have submitted district-wise assessments of flood damages this year;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the aid sought for relief and rehabilitation work?

(a) to (c): After taking into account the memorandum of the State, assessment of the Central Team and the norms for admissible expenditure a sum of Rs. 118.34 crore was assessed as the requirement for relief expenditure for the State of Assam. Adequate balance was available in the CRF of the State (to which Central Government contributes 75%) to cover this expenditure.

Manipur Government had also submitted a memorandum for financial assistance of Rs. 287.06 crore from NCCF. To assess the damage, a Central Team has visited affected areas of the State. The report of the Central Team is awaited. A memorandum/ request for financial assistance of Rs. 60.3977 crore for the current floods and 15.00 crore for last year`s floods from NCCF has been received from Arunachal Pradesh on 13th November 2002 and is being processed.
